Brian Abels elected Judge in 21st JDC
Denham Springs attorney Brian Abels will soon be called Judge, after he won the Division D judgeship on the 21st Judicial District Court Saturday.
According to complete but unofficial returns, Abels had 43,099 votes (56 percent) to Ernie Drake’s 44 percent of the vote in the third-parish judicial district.
Abels offered the following message after the returns were announced Saturday:
“Words cannot express how much I appreciate the trust and confidence that you, the voters of the 21st JDC, have placed in me. I promise that I will work hard to be a judge that makes you proud. Thank you for your prayers, your support, and your vote!”
Abels fills the seat vacated by Judge Doug Hughes with his retirement earlier this year. Abels will serve the remainder of Hughes’ term which continues through Dec. 2020.
All 21st Judicial District Court Judges seats will be fall 2020 ballot.
