Amite Police investigates Monday shooting death

AMITE---Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona is asking for the public’s assistance in solving a shooting case Monday night that left an Arcola man dead.

Trabona said officers responded to the 400 block of 3rd Street around 9:30 p.m. Monday and discovered the victim, Arkejen Freeman, 22, who had been shot once in the torso with a .9-millimeter weapon. Freeman was taken to Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite where he later died.

Detectives are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting, but they are searching for a male juvenile who is believed to be a person of interest in this case. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa, Inc., at 1-800-554-5245 or visit www.tangicrimestoppers.com and click on the P3 Tips icon or Submit A Tip! Be a part of the solution and you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000!
