AMITE---Criminal charges have been dropped against a longtime Tangipahoa Parish Justice of the Peace, who maintained her innocence on all the charges against her throughout the eight months after the Attorney General’s office sought an indictment against her in Amite.

Four-term Justice of the Peace Terri Monteleone Crosby confirmed on Thursday that the Attorney General’s Office has dropped the four-count indictment handed down against her in December 2018. The charges in question allegedly involved theft and exploitation of an individual, accusations that Crosby categorically denied throughout the case.

On Thursday, Crosby said, "This entire ordeal stemmed from me helping a friend of 24 years. It’s still hard to believe I was never asked one question by any law enforcement agency."

An official statement from the AG’s office filed with the 21st Judicial District Court on Aug. 15 offers only one sentence on the disposition of the case: “Pursuant to the LA C.Cr. P. Art 691, the undersigned Assistant Attorney General, acting as District Attorney Ad Hoc in the above captioned matter (State of Louisiana V. Terri Crosby) does hereby dismiss the indictment returned by the grand jury on 14th day of December, 2018 and filed with your office under docket number 1803100.”

In a statement to AN17, Crosby offered heartfelt thanks to all those who believed in her and supported her through these eight months. "I sincerely want to thank all of you who supported me and believed in my innocence that I declared from the beginning of this challenging ordeal.
The hugs, words of faith, prayers and love shown to me is something I will never forget.

"I have always wondered when attending a funeral of a love one how much they would love to hear what everyone said about them well thankfully I did not have to die to see what I mean to people.

"Thank you again to my family and friends. A special thanks to my husband and children (and their spouses) who never wavered in love, compassion and support, and my loyal staff who gave me a reason to go to work each day with my head up and a smile on my face. In addition, I appreciate how the immediate family of my friend stood beside me.

"While the last year has been difficult, God was with me, and my faith remained stronger than ever. The truth has prevailed as I believed it always would. It is my desire just get my life back."
