PONCHATOULA---Jean Sawyer on Emerald Drive has been awarded the Gardenettes of Ponchatoula's June Garden of the Month.

According to Ellen Pusey, committee member for the garden club, "The beautifully manicured front lawn immediately catches your eye with vibrant red impatiens and colorful caladiums in a bed surrounding a large water oak. There is a bench and lawn chairs under the shade of the Oak in order to sit and enjoy a summer breeze and admire the labor of her beautiful lawn. In other beds across the front of her home she has planted blue and pink hydrangea, azaleas, ferns, knockout roses, crepe myrtles and a variety of shrubs.

Jean's backyard is a serene space with the gentle sounds of a water feature and filled with plants such as very large, bright blue sun-patiens, Coleus, caladiums, impatiens and shrubs. There are also crepe myrtle trees and a bountiful fig tree. The property is backed up to green space which makes for an even more beautiful area attracting birds and little critters. Mrs. Sawyer spends endless hours working in her gardens and is evident at first glance. We thank her for allowing us to award her our June Garden of the Month, said Pusey.

The club is a member of District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc. and the Deep South Region of the National Garden Clubs Inc.‚Äč
