Southeastern Lionettes crowned National Hip Hop champs
ORLANDO, Fla. – Southeastern Louisiana’s dance team, the Lionettes, earned the gold medal Sunday at the 2018 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships, highlighting a banner weekend for the Southeastern spirit squads.

“I’m extremely proud of this team and what they accomplished this weekend,” spirit coordinator Paige Hall said. “They went into the weekend to get a job done and that’s exactly what they did. Winning the squad’s first national championship is a huge accomplishment for this program and has been a goal for a long time.”

Beating out dance teams from St. John’s, Saint Joseph’s, North Dakota State, Northern Arizona and Central Connecticut State in the Division I Hip Hop finals, Southeastern claimed the first gold medal in program history.

The Lionettes placed seventh in Jazz, coming in behind Delaware, Cal State Fullerton, Hofstra, Grand Canyon, Northern Arizona and Stony Brook.

Southeastern’s cheerleaders also earned a medal at nationals, earning bronze in UCA’s first Game Day Competition, placing behind the University of Puerto Rico Bayamón and UT Chattanooga in the Open Coed division.

“We’re really proud of these squads,” athletics director Jay Artigues said. “They worked year-round for this opportunity and they deserve everything they’ve accomplished. I applaud our teams and coaches.”
