Gail Burns Dawson


Gail Dawson, 72 of Hammond passed away February 3. Gail was born in Hammond February 25, 1945 to Robert "Bob" Burns and Ethel Hyde Burns. She was a star basketball player at Hammond High School and her passion for basketball continued throughout her life: cheering for LSU, coaching community basketball, and being a host family for the girl's state tournament. For the past 15 years, she has been the friendly face at the front gate of the Louisiana Renaissance Festival. She is survived by husband Larry Dawson, daughters Gaynell (Ronnie) Barnett, Robin (Randy) Messer, Nancy (Ray) Daniels, Amy (Alvon) Brumfield, and sister Sybil Burns. Leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grand children. She is preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Greta Golson. A tribute to her life will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 1-4 pm at the Police Union Hall located at 201 Natchez street Hammond, La.
