From Louisiana State Police:
SORRENTO---Shortly before midnight on May 18, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on US 61 south of LA 22 in Ascension Parish after a family member located the crashed vehicle.

The crash took the life of 23-year-old Thomas Jones, 22-year-old Austin Kiernan, and 19-year-old Sydney Persac of St. Amant.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash had occurred in the early morning hours of May 18, 2017. Troopers were able to determine that Jones, Kiernan, and Persac were traveling northbound on US 61 in a 2010 Hyundai Genesis. For unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment. The vehicle became airborne and struck a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to split in half and come to rest in the bayou.

It is unknown if Jones, Kiernan, and Persac were restrained at the time of the crash, but they were all located outside of the vehicle. They were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers have not yet determined who was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash or if impairment was a factor. This crash remains under investigation.
