HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University students will benefit from an AT&T contribution of $18,000 that will provide scholarship aid to students who are on track to graduate but may be unable to finish their studies without financial assistance.

The contribution supports Completer Scholarships at Southeastern for students who are within 21 hours or less of graduating and are not eligible for scholarship support after completing their fourth year of college.

“This generous donation from AT&T shows commitment to education and preparing Louisiana’s workforce for the economy of the future, and I sincerely appreciate their support of the Foundation,” said Southeastern President John L. Crain. “The use of these funds for Completer Scholarships will make a positive difference in the lives of students who are on the verge of graduation, and are working to make that goal a reality.”

Over 80 percent of Southeastern students receive some form of financial aid. After four years or eight semesters, those students lose their eligibility for TOPS and general scholarships offered through the Southeastern Foundation. This initiative is designed to address needs that continue once those four years are complete.

“Through contributions from AT&T in the private sector joining with our educational institutions, together they are helping students complete their degrees and improve their earnings potential,” said State Representative Chris Broadwater. “I appreciate AT&T’s support of this very worthwhile endeavor.”

“Supporting education through contributions like this one to the Southeastern Louisiana University Foundation is an important way AT&T Louisiana demonstrates a strong commitment to growing the economy of the future for the people of Louisiana,” said Sonia Perez, president of AT&T Louisiana.
