Joint Operation between STPSO and JPSO Results in Drug Arrest

Another drug dealer is off the streets thanks to a joint effort between the STPSO Narcotics Task Force, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force and the STPSO SWAT team.

On Jan. 8, the three teams, working together, executed a search warrant at Villa Du Lac apartments in Slidell.

The search warrant was a result of a JPSO Major Crimes Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force investigation into a Slidell-area man distributing large quantities of high-grade marijuana in the New Orleans Metro area. The STPSO Narcotics Task Force assisted in that investigation.

As a result of that joint effort and the resulting search warrant, Melvin Hickerson (DOB: 10/31/83; 62200 West End Blvd, Apt. 5102, Slidell) was found in possession of approximately 9lbs of high grade marijuana, several unknown pills, two loaded handguns, one loaded .556 caliber rifle, ammunition, body armor, scales, baggies consistent with the packaging and distribution of marijuana and $4,500 cash.

An infant child was also present with Hickerson at the time law enforcement officers executed the search warrant. The infant is now in the care of family members.

The unknown pills will be sent to the STPSO Crime Lab for chemical analysis testing. The high-grade marijuana has an approximate street value of $40,000.

Detectives also seized the $4,500 cash as suspected proceeds from the sale of marijuana.

Hickerson was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges:

LRS 40:966A Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
LRS 14:91.13 Possession of a CDS in the Presence of a Minor
LRS 40:1023 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
LRS 14:95.3 Unlawful Possession of Body Armor
LRS 14:95.1 Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon
LRS 40:1041.C Transactions Involving Proceeds From Drug Offenses

The STPSO Narcotics Task Force is comprised of detectives from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Mandeville Police Department, Covington Police Department and Slidell Police Department.
