Pfeifers receive Founder’s Award at 4th LCDC Jazz Brunch
HAMMOND---The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center held its 4th Annual Jazz Brunch at The Event Center LaMaison Celebrazione on Sunday, April 2.
Guests gathered to enjoy a delicious brunch menu & libations, live music by “Vida Duet,” and auction items donated by several generous businesses and individuals. The event, presented by Cypress Pointe Hospital, also featured a team of local community and business leaders working as waiters and waitresses competing to collect the most tips and win the title of “Celebrity Waiter of the Year.” All tips collected by the team of Celebrity Waiters, as well as funds raised through event sponsorships, ticket sales, silent auction, and raffle sales, support the Discovery Center’s endeavor to introduce new exhibits and programming at the center.
“Cypress Pointe Hospital is very excited about the relationship we’ve formed with The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center” said President and CEO of Cypress Pointe Hospital Glenda Dobson. “The Jazz Brunch was a huge success and we look forward to continuing our support of the LCDC and their mission to educate children through the power of play.”
“I am continually amazed at the kindness and generosity of companies and individuals in our community that go over and beyond to support our efforts. The proceeds from this year’s event will help us bring in another new exhibit to keep the Discovery Center exciting and fun for our children” said LCDC Director of Operations, Leon Philpot. “And, I want to commend our Coordinator of Development, Lauren Williams, for organizing and managing a great event. We are blessed to have her on staff with us. She is a joy to work with and help us grow bigger and better.”
A special award was presented by Kathy Montecino, member of the LCDC Advisory Council. Each year the Founder’s Award is given to an individual or business that has played an instrumental role in the success of the Discovery Center. This year’s Founder’s Award was awarded to Karen and Horst Pfeifer of Middendorf’s Restaurant. Middendorf’s has been a major supporter of the Discovery Center since its inception and there is even a mini Middendorf’s Restaurant exhibit in the center.
