LEE’S LANDING—-Tangipahoa Parish Government has applied for and is now awaiting approval of a coastal use permit from the Army Corps of Engineers to begin the construction process for a newly-designed public boat launch at Lee’s Landing.

The project to replace the landing which is located south of Highway 22 on the Tangipahoa River is being funded with approximately $600,000 in federal grant funds.

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said the boat launch has been in very poor condition for a long time and needs to be made safer. In addition to the safety concerns, Miller said the new boat launch will offer residents easier access to the River. Lighting at the site is also being planned, along with improved public parking.

Miller said the federally-funded project has to clear environmental review and permitting before the bid process can begin. The Parish President said he anticipates bidding to happen later this year, with construction starting in late 2017.
