Hammond man sentenced to 7 years on negligent homicide

AMITE---A 29-year-old Hammond man has been sentenced to seven years in jail in the 2015 death of a Ponchatoula man.

Joshua Paul Orso, 29, of Hammond, pleaded no contest to unlawful disposal of remains and negligent homicide in the 2015 death of Seth Landry of Ponchatoula.

In an October 23, 2015 press release, investigators with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office indicated Landry died of a drug overdose. Deputies arrested Orso and a second suspect in connection with the case.

On Tuesday, Judge Charlotte Foster sentenced Orso to seven years with the Department of Corrections. He will receive credit for time served, according to a press release from District Attorney Scott Perrilloux's office.

In other sentencing news, Perrilloux reports that the following individuals appeared in court on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, before Judge Charlotte Foster and pleaded either guilty or no contest or were found guilty of the following crimes and received the following sentences:

Charles Austin, age 43, of Covington, LA, pleaded no contest to third offense driving while intoxicated. Sentencing is scheduled for May 30, 2017.

Tommy Brooks, age 45, of Independence, LA, pleaded no contest to simple battery. He was sentenced to six months in the parish jail. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He is ordered to pay a $350.00 fine along with court costs.

Jerome Favors, age 22, of Tickfaw, LA, pleaded no contest to introducing contraband. He was sentenced to five years with the department of corrections. He received credit for time served.

Landry Hill, age 55, of Independence, LA, pleaded no contest to fourth offense driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to 10 years with the department of corrections. All but two years of the sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation for five years. He is ordered to pay a $5,000.00 fine along with court costs.

Kentrell Johnson, age 36, of Kentwood, LA, pleaded no contest to possession of stolen property. He was sentenced to five years with the department of corrections. He received credit for time served.

Jordan Miller, age 31, of Kentwood, LA, pleaded no contest to simple burglary. He was sentenced to five years with the department of corrections. The sentence was deferred and he was placed on probation for five years. He is ordered to pay a $500.00 fine along with court costs.

Michael Nelson, age 47, of Hammond, LA, pleaded no contest to aggravated assault with a firearm. He was sentenced to 10 years with the department of corrections. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation for five years. He is ordered to pay a $500.00 fine along with court costs.

Jervarion Smith, age 19, of Hammond, LA, pleaded no contest to possession of a stolen firearm and flight from an officer. He was sentenced to five years with the department of corrections. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation for five years. He is ordered to pay a $500.00 fine along with court costs.

Danny Starkey, age 47, of Hammond, LA, pleaded no contest to resisting an officer with force or violence. He was sentenced to one year with the department of corrections. He received credit for time served.

Derrick Wallace, age 37, of Hammond, LA, pleaded no contest to possession of stolen property over $500.00. He was sentenced to one year with the department of corrections. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year. He is ordered to pay a $500.00 fine along with court costs.
