Edwards announces scholarships for two from Ponchatoula & OFA

HAMMOND, LA –-– Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards announced that Breonn Nichols from Ponchatoula High School and Baylee Smith, a graduate of Oak Forest Academy have been named the recipients of the academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriff’s Scholarship Program for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Both students reside in Tangipahoa Parish and plan to attend Louisiana Universities.

The Sheriff’s Scholarship is made possible by the Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program. Louisiana Sheriff’s provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the Sheriff is an affiliate of the Program.

Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership, and character are considered in making selections of Sheriff’s scholarship recipients. The only limitations are that the applicants be permeate residents of Louisiana; scholarships be used for higher education within the state of LA; and students are enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in the state. Scholarships were rewarded in sixty-four parishes across the state.

“The academic awards by the LA. Sheriff’s Scholarship Program is one of our finest accomplishments,” Edwards states. “We invest in Louisiana’s future and we also give something back to Tangipahoa Parish.” he concluded.
