HAMMOND---Hammond High Magnet School's Angelina Drago is one of 24 semi-finalists for the 2018 Louisiana Teacher of the Year award.

The contest, sponsored in part by the State Department of Education and Dream Teachers, recognizes the state's top educators.

"These educators are making exceptional gains with students, pushing them to achieve at the highest levels in the state," according to DOE's announcement of the semi-finalists on their website this week.

All Teacher and Principal of the Year finalists and semi-finalists will be honored at the 11th Annual Cecil. J. Picard Educator Excellence Symposium and Celebration on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Crowne Plaza Executive Center in Baton Rouge.
