AMITE---A 28-year-old Kentwood man died in a three-vehicle crash on US 51 north of LA 16 in Amite Wednesday afternoon.

Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona said Garrett “Max” Blades, 28, of Kentwood, was killed in the crash which happened shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators believe Blades was driving a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on US 51 on the north side of the Amite city limits. As Blades approached the intersection with Robin Street, officers say a 2017 Chevy Spark driven by Zackary Caine of Amite stopped in front of Blades and prepared to make a left turn.

“For reasons still under investigation, Blades failed to stop and read-ended the Spark, causing Blades to dismount from the motorcycle,” Amite Police reported in a press release Thursday.

Investigators said Blades traveled into the southbound lane of US 51 and was struck by a 2007 Chevy pick-up driven by Tamara Muse of Montepelier.

Blades succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. The other two drivers, who were not injured, submitted to testing and investigators determined they were not impaired at the time of the crash, the press release indicates.
