All Tangipahoa and Livingston Parish Public Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 24 because of inclement weather forecasts in the area.
The National Weather Service is reporting a chance of snow, sleet and frigid temperatures Friday.
The question of how far south the system will impact and for what, if any, duration has kept local school districts in contact with OEP much of the afternoon to determine what conditions should be considered for school on Friday.
Livingston Parish made the call to cancel classes late Thursday afternoon. Livingston Parish Superintendent John Watson advised employees, students and parents to anticipate updates from the district’s phone and email messaging systems and through local media outlets.
In Tangipahoa, School Superintendent Mark Kolwe made the call shortly after 3 a.m. Friday morning, as initial reports of flurries in the area emerged.
Kolwe said classes will be cancelled Friday and he urged school employees to stay off the roads.
"No school staff should report to work," Kolwe said in Friday's update to media.
