60-year-old man dies in early morning fire in Hammond
From the Louisiana State Fire Marshal:

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Hammond Fire Department, and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office continue to review the circumstances surrounding a fire early Wednesday where a man died.

Investigators were called to Gorman Road in Hammond where fire crews responded to a report of a fire shortly after midnight involving a “Fifth Wheel” travel trailer. After suppression efforts were completed, firefighters located the body of a 60- year-old man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification to family members.

The body was later released to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner after being examined by investigators. A preliminary autopsy report indicates that the victim died of smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.

Investigators learned that a neighbor heard a sound resembling an explosion and found the trailer to be fully engulfed in flames.

While the cause remains under investigation, investigators established that the fire originated within the trailer, which had no working smoke alarms.
