Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards visited with his father at their monthly family lunch on Tuesday at the Edwards' home in Sweetwater. Frank M. Edwards Jr. was sheriff for the decade of the 1970s.

TARC Radiothon runs thru Thursday on Tangi 96.5 fm

TARC Spokeswoman  Blaire Bolton says TARC's annual two-day radio-appeal fundraiser is March 10 and 11, heard exclusively on Northshore Broadcasting's 96.5 fm.  Celebrity DJ's take over the station to raise funds for the agency that supports disabled children and their families.  Scheduled to appear this year on Radiothon are Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, Tangipahoa Parish President Gordon Burgess and Livingston Parish President Mike Grimmer, our local ESPN/USA Today sports poll SLU Lions Baseball Coach Jay Artigues, Hammond City Councilman Mike Williams, School Board members Sandra Bailey Simmons and Danny Ridgel, Livingston Parish Tourist Commission Director Eric Edwards, Smitty's CEO George Ann Smith, Blues and BBQ Chairman Eric Phares, and a host of other celebrities.  The winners of the Penny Power school competitions will be announced Thursday at 5 p.m.

She's running!

Former Parish Councilwoman Pat Brister of Mandeville says that she plans to run for St. Tammany Parish President. Incumbent Kevin Davis cannot seek re-election because of term limits. Brister is currently the Director of the Northshore Business Council.


Legislator of the year

Senator Ben Nevers was chosen by the Louisiana School Board Association as the Legislator of the Year. The Bogalusa senator, whose District 12 includes parts of Tangipahoa, St. Helena, and St. Tammany, and all of Washington Parish chairs the Senate Education Committee. Nevers spent eight years on the Bogalusa School Board.

SDT Waste President Sidney Torres IV has been named Grand Marshal of the Sicilian Festival which runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Independence. Torres is pictured above with Mayor Mike Ragusa and Chairman Reggie Martin holding a case of Castello beer that was presented to him at Town Hall.
