Tea Party may torpedo tax renewal

Slidell Fire Chief Larry Hess knows that he faces substantial opposition to Fire District 1's millage renewal on the April 21 ballot, even though the 35-mill tax has been on the books for 30 years. Ironically, in recent years the department has only collected 31 mills.

The Town of Independence is in the process of replacing all street signs with 94 new posts and 188 new signs. Last year all 144 traffic signs in the town were replaced. And state grants are picking up 100% of the cost
