Slidell father arrested for injuries caused to infant son
From the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office:
SLIDELL---St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a Slidell-man for cruelty to a juvenile after his infant son sustained severe injuries while in his care.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday (April 10), St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the residence at 4141 Walnut Street, Slidell, after the father called to report that his 3-month-old son was unresponsive.

The responding deputy located the infant laying on an adult-style bed inside the home. He was bubbling at the mouth and struggling to breathe.

The baby was transported via ambulance to a Southshore hospital, where he remains, in stable condition.

The father, Tremaine Hopkins said he was caring for the child while the baby’s mother was at work. While speaking with the investigators, the account he provided regarding the events was inconsistent with the injuries the child sustained.

Hopkins, 23, of Slidell, was arrested for LRS 14:93.2.3 Second-degree Cruelty to a Juvenile and was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available at this time. The state Department of Child and Family Services has been notified.
