PPD arrests two in shoplifting, stolen vehicle cases

PONCHATOULA---Chief Layrisson reports the arrest of two individuals that were allegedly stealing from Walmart and then fled in a stolen vehicle.

On October 9, 2017, Ponchatoula Police officers received a call from Walmart that two individuals were caught shoplifting and were getting into their vehicle to leave the store. Officers patrolling the area were able to locate the vehicle immediately as it was leaving Walmart. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but were unsuccessful as the offenders attempted to outrun the officers. It was learned during the pursuit that the vehicle driven by the offenders was reported stolen out of Hammond.

Once on Barringer Road, the offenders abandoned the vehicle in the roadway and fled on foot. Megan Butler, 26, was quickly apprehended by officers and taken into custody. The other offender, Josh Lacoste, 28, fled into the surrounding area. Officers, Detectives, and Chief Layrisson set up a perimeter around the area. A short time later, Lacoste was apprehended and taken into custody.

Megan Butler was charged with Theft by Shoplifting, Resisting an Officer by Flight- Vehicle, Resisting an Officer by Flight- Foot, and Possession of Stolen Property.

Joshua Lacoste was charged with Resisting an Officer by Flight- Vehicle, Resisting an Officer by Flight- Foot, and Possession of Stolen Property. He is also on probation out of St. Tammany Parish.
