PONCHATOULA---A 62-year-old Ponchatoula man has been arrested on charges of felony theft after he allegedly embezzled more than $70,000 from the American Legion Post 47, of which the suspect is a member.

Randall C. "Randy" Baldini, 62, of West McClellan St., Ponchatoula, was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing $70,000 in funds from the American Legion Post 47. Authorities say Baldini has been cashing in certificates of deposit and embezzling other funds from the Legion, which is headquartered on E. Pine Street inside the Ponchatoula city limits.

Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson said his department has been the lead investigators on this case.

Layrisson said Baldini has cooperated with authorities and allegedly admitted to the thefts, which have reportedly been ongoing from as far back as 1999 until the present.

Baldini was formally booked by PPD Friday and transported to the TPSO Jail in Amite.
