9th annual Night Out, cook-off, and run planned Saturday
PONCHATOULA - Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa, in partnership with Healthier Air for All, Popeye’s Famous Fired Chicken, the Ponchatoula Jaycee’s, First Guaranty Bank, SNAP Fitness, Target, Santa Fe Cattle Company, and Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital is proud to announce the 9th Annual Tangipahoa & St. Helena Night Out Against Crime on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 in beautiful Memorial Park in Ponchatoula, LA from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.

In addition, there will also be a Hot Wing Cook-Off Challenge where YOU can be the Judge for $5.00 beginning at 4:00 p.m. and the Light the Night 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run Super Hero vs. Villains Edition beginning at 5:00 p.m.

NEW this year is the Night Out Car and Truck show with an entry fee of $25 beginning at 4 p.m.

The Night Out event will be FREE to the public and will celebrate National Crime Prevention Month and Safe Communities America Day as well. The booths will open at 4:00 pm and close at 7:00 p.m. Thanks to our partners the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and all of our other law enforcement, fire, and first responders there will be a live law enforcement and K9 demonstration and many safety vehicles on site to visit and explore. We will also have an opportunity for the public to paint their handprint on a TPSO Unit! There will also be spacewalks, balloons, face painting, games, giveaways, and other activities at each booth.

Our costume contest is back this year for children ages 12 and under as well as a booth to booth trick or treat. Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa and the 7th Ward Marshal Pat Farris will issue reflective trick or treat bags, trick or treat Safety tips coloring sheets & crayons to the trick or treaters at the public registration table. This is a family friendly event. Child I.D. Kits and finger printing will also be available. We will also be selling jambalaya, hamburgers, hotdogs, sweet tea, and lemonade at the event. There will also be music by D.J. Chuck B. so feel free to bring a blanket or chair and stay a while!

This year’s event is focused on building strong, positive police-community partnerships and is dedicated to the memory of Crime Stopper’s friend and hero the late Cheryl Klein and to all of those who have died while serving and protecting our citizens ” states Jodie Rohner, CEO/Executive Director of Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa.

This year we are bringing back the popular Hot Wing Cook-off Challenge, sponsored for the 4th year by Popeye’s Famous Fried Chicken, where the public can judge the People’s Choice Award winner for the price of a $5.00 wrist band. With your purchase you get to sample all of the wings, 5 ballots to vote, and two sides from 4th year sponsor Santa Fe Cattle Company. Additional ballots can be purchased for $1.00 each. We will begin selling wristbands at 4:00pm. Teams will compete to win your vote. Teams will also be competing to earn the most “Tips” in their jars for a prize!

As part of the festivities, the “Light the Night Glow Run 5K & NEW 1 Mile Fun Run Heroes vs. Villains Edition in conjunction with Night Out. Hero and Villains Costumes are encouraged for the races which start at 5:00 PM. The first 50 people to finish will be given Hero Medals. We will have face painting, fun race accessories, and glow items for sale beside our photo booth before and after the race. Our sponsor All American Chiropractic will be on site before and after the race for stretching and chair massages. Awards will be given for the first male and female to finish, the oldest to finish, the youngest to finish, and the best dressed individual and team.
