Sheriff to honor dog bite victim and rescuer

Public silenced at "public" hearing

Over 100 local residents came to a public hearing at the Tangipahoa Parish Council office in Amite to voice opposition to the closure of three railroad crossings, only to be told by the state highway department that no one would be allowed to speak, including Independence activist Melvin McElwee and Tangipahoa Mayor Michael Jackson.
