Baton Rouge LA, State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning announced today, the arrest of two juveniles who are accused of setting three fires in the Cane Market Road and Range Avenue area, located in the Northern part of Livingston Parish.
The Livingston Parish Fire Protection District Four responded to the following fire incidents:
7-5-2010, 8482 Beechwood Dr. Fire to a new home, damage set at $40,000.00
7-21-2010, 9450 W. Blount Rd. Fire to a boat, damage set at $30,000.00
8-1-2010, 9453 W. Blount Rd. Fire set to a vehicle, damage set at $6,000.00
The State Fire Marshal’s Office began to investigate this unusual occurrence of fires in a small area and determined a pattern in the likeness of serial arsons. All three fires were determined to be intentionally set. Investigators used evidence on the scene to develop suspects and subsequently charged two juveniles, each with three counts of Simple Arson. The two were released to the custody of their parents until the District Attorney proceeds with the prosecution process.
State Fire Marshal Browning, expressed deep concern that these young adults used fire to cause such danger and also brought fear to this community. He stated, “We will not tolerate the use of fire in any criminal manner, this is an example that if you use fire to hurt people or destroy property we will find you and hold you accountable”.
