TICKFAW – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated a vehicle crash which occurred on September 3, 2010, on the south side of Genessee Rd.
Deputy Nathan Manton responded to the Genesee Rd at Chapel Rd location in reference to the crash which involved an injury. Upon arriving, Deputy Manton observed a blue Dodge truck and a green Ford Focus located in the ditch on the South side of Genesee Rd. Deputy Manton also observed a white male standing in the road wearing a white t-shirt and a white male on a stretcher. The Natalbany Fire Department was already on the scene and rendering aid.
During the investigation, Deputy Manton discovered that 22 year old Carlos Lopez of Hammond, LA was the driving the blue pick up truck which was reported to be swerving all over the road. The driver of a green Ford Focus was traveling east on Genesee Rd. when he observed Lopez erratically driving in his direction. The driver of the Ford Focus then brought his vehicle to a stop. Lopez then traveled into his lane of traffic striking the vehicle head on causing both vehicles to thrown in the ditch.
The investigation led deputies to believe that Lopez was intoxicated when he was behind the wheel of his vehicle when it crashed into the green Ford Focus. Lopez was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI, Careless Operation, Driving under Suspension and Negligent Injury. The driver of the green Ford Focus was transported to a near by medical facility and treated for the injuries sustained during the crash,
