Mrs. Johnnie M. McDaniel Walker, 86, a native of Stoney Point and a lifelong resident of Wilmer passed away at 7:55 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Franklinton.
Everyone who knew Mrs. Johnnie knew her to be passionate about her family, her daylilies and her flower garden.
Mrs. Johnnie is survived by her daughter, Betty Walker Fortinberry and husband, Hubert, Chesbrough; 2 sons, Barry (Bill) Walker, Wilmer and Lemmie Walker and wife, Sharon, Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Michelle Ribera and husband, Chris, Baton Rouge; Greg Fortinberry and wife, Kim, Chesbrough; Erin Heltz and husband, Darrin, Madisonville; Lee Walker and wife, Ena, Jackson, MS; great grandchildren, Cole and Austin Fortinberry, Isabella and Jacob Walker, Logan Heltz, and Elise and Christopher Ribera; 2 sisters, Jerry Wascom and husband, Clyde, Franklinton and Carolyn Smith and husband, Derwood, Stoney Point; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Walker; parents, Zack and Maude McDaniel; brother, Glen and wife, June McDaniel.
Visitation at McKneely & Vaughn Funeral Home, Amite, on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until Celebration of Life Services at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Don McDaniel and Dr. Danny Smith officiating. Interment in the Walker Family Cemetery, Wilmer.
Pallbearers will be Barry Walker, Lee Walker, Greg Fortinberry, Cole Fortinberry, Darren Smith, and Lemmie Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Walker, James Harold Bankston, Derwood Smith, Keith McDaniel, Chris Ribera and Darrin Heltz.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of Heritage Manor Nursing Home of Franklinton, Dr. Kyle Magee for the care they provided their Mother. They also wanted to thank James Harold Bankston, who visited and prayed with “Miss Johnnie” every Sunday morning. They also want to especially thank Edith Perry who devoted one year of her life providing loving care for their Mother.
