COVINGTON – The excitement and glamour of Hollywood are coming to Covington on Oscar Night. Residents of the North Shore can experience the thrills and surprises of the 82ndAcademy Awards® on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Covington’s own Oscar Night America party.
The North Shore event is one of only 50 parties officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that will be held across the country on Oscar Night.
Benefiting the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter, Covington’s Oscar Night celebration will be held at Tchefuncta Country Club, beginning at 7:00pm. Tickets are now on sale at www.arcno.org or by calling 504-620-3154.
The Tchefuncta Country Club audience will watch the Academy Awards telecast on large screens courtesy of WGNO ABC26, the New Orleans affiliate of the ABC Television Network, which broadcasts the Academy Awards presentation. This is the 17th year that the Academy and ABC have cooperated with local charities to support official Oscar Night viewing parties throughout the country. This year marks the eighth year that the Southeast Louisiana Chapter’s party has been sanctioned by the Academy.
Oscar Night America
“Oscar Night America parties give communities across the country the opportunity to both share in the excitement of Oscar Night and support worthy causes,” said Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis. “The Academy is very proud that our worldwide television event can benefit so many charities on a local level.”
Official Oscar Night parties last year raised more than $3 million in 52 cities. All money raised stays in the local community.
The Academy will provide party guests in Covington the same official program distributed to guests at the Oscarâ presentation at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood.
North Shore guests may feel like stars themselves as they walk down the red carpet, sip on themed cocktails and behave like the stars that they are.
“Oscar Night generates excitement all over the world,” said Kay Wilkins, CEO of the Southeast Louisiana Chapter. “With the Academy’s help, our guests will feel like they are on the A-list – we can’t think of a better mix – the Red Cross and the Red Carpet.”
