Troopers arrest Hammond man for insurance fraud

HAMMOND – State Police arrested William White Jr., 27, Hammond, Thursday for insurance fraud, State Police reported Friday.

Troopers investigated a complaint from Progressive Insurance Co. that alleged White had tried to file a claim on a wrecked car that had been damaged prior to his purchase of the policy.

In June 2010, White filed a property claim with Progressive because his vehicle had been involved in a hit-and-run accident in a retail parking lot. The insurance company sent out an adjuster to investigate the claim, but then denied the claim because White’s coverage lapsed. Then, White took out a new policy in October 2010 and shortly thereafter filed a claim for a similar accident.

The adjuster investigating the claim realized that White was making a claim for the same vehicle and damage as was previously denied.
