Hard at work on Mardi Gras Day
Tangipahoa Parish President Gordon Burgess was on site Tuesday morning as arborists from Tree Tech, LLC trimmed three live oak trees along Old Hwy 51 near Amite. Last week, the Tangipahoa Parish Council negotiated a resolution between the property owner and nearby Liuzza Farms which reported damage to produce trucks at their property due to the hanging limbs. Burgess said the parish was able to contract with the Slidell company to perform the work at a fraction of the cost on Mardi Gras Day.

Preparing for Robotic regionals
Hammond High's Robotics team worked until the closing hours of Mardi Gras day putting the finishing touches on their 2012 entry for spring competition. Students had exactly six weeks to develop, design, and perfect their robot, which draws a basketball up through a series of gears and shoots it into a hoop, after a series of obstacles. This is the 6th year HHMS will participate in regional competitions for their robotics program.

One for two
Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks (left) successfully nominated former Livingston Parish Police Juror Sam Digirolamo as the parish's new Planning and Department of Public Works Director. The council accepted the nomination, although there were some concerns that Digirolamo did not exactly meet the prerequisites for the post. Ricks did not proceed with plans to ask the council to vote Laurie Durnin as the parish's new finance director, opting instead to retract that nomination and advertise once again for the post.
